Night visual GCTS

In the following movie you see a night visual at Tenerifa Sur runway 08, filmed from the jump seat observer’s point of view.

The movie has some interesting events. During our visual we are a little bit to fast and due to the very high weight the A/C reduces very slowly. Given the fact that the preceding A/C is flying much slower we decide to do a 270 degrees turn from base onto final to slow down and gain more separation.

Due to a weight discrepancy (we are actually heavier than calculated with our laptop), The Vapp (final approach speed) lies only 2 knots from the VLS (beginning of amber stall tape) in stead of the normal 5! This results twice in a low energy warning (SPEED SPEED SPEED) and the second time as a protection not to get in the VLS, the ‘’Alpha floor’’ mode kicks in.

Only correct action is to disconnect ATH/R and fly the rest of the approach with manual thrust.

As you can see from the description an interesting approach where had to be worked hard! Enjoy!
